There are 24 Horas, spanning the 24-hour duration between sunrise to sunrise on the next day. Hora, derived from the Sanskrit word ‘ahoratra’, literally translates into ‘day and night’ and is calculated as 15 degrees. There are two horas in a rashi which is typically calculated to be a 30-degree angle. Din horas span the duration between sunrise to sunset and Ratri horas span the duration between sunset to sunrise the next day.
Horas begins at sunrise with the ruling planet of the day. The first hora is the ruling planet of the day and the second hora is the ruling planet of the sixth day. For instance, the first hora of Sunday will be Sun hora and the second hora will be Venus hora, and so on until the sunrise of the next day.
